Reporting Targets

In line with government targets set out in the 2003 White Paper 'Our Inheritance, Our Future - Realising the potential of genetics in the NHS' we aim to report new work within the following timescales. Please contact us if you are unsure as to the categorisation of the test of interest.

For some cancer work, there is currently a delay with testing and reporting.

Please provide advance notice for urgent tests (5 days suggested by CMGS).

  • PCR based tests where the result is needed urgently (e.g. prenatal diagnosis)

3 working days

  • Newborn screening cystic fibrosis tests (Guthrie spots)

4 working days

  • Southern blot tests where the result is needed urgently (e.g. prenatal diagnosis)

10 working days

  • PCR based tests where the familial mutation is known

  • Specific mutation tests

  • Gene tracking by microsatellite analysis

  • Mutation screening of a single gene

40 working days

  • Southern blot tests (non-urgent)
